I have to admit when I first heard about it I did think twice, but then we have the choice of some really lovely flavoured tea these days and we do not think twice about combining chocolate and coffee.
There is nothing difficult about making chocolate tea. I have given a basic recipe to follow with some tea flavour ideas. If you would like to make your own hot chocolate powder mix to use then click here to find easy recipes including a gourmet version.
The chocolate tea can be served hot or chilled to make iced chocolate tea for those hot summer days.
Chocolate Tea Recipe
For one serve you will need
- 1 tea bag or 1 heaped teaspoon
- 1 cup boiled water
- 1 1/2 tablespoons hot chocolate mix
Make a cup of tea using the tea bag and boiled water, brew for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bag. Stir through the hot chocolate mix. Serve hot or chill to serve later. Pour over ice cubes for iced tea if it is a hot day - very refreshing.
Do not sweetened the tea until you have tried it - remember the hot chocolate mix is usually sweet and this maybe enough.
Tea bags that I have tried include
- English Breakfast Tea
- Chai Tea - this also nice sweetened with condensed milk for those with a sweet tooth. Chai chocolate tea is very warming and smells delicious with all its spices.
- peppermint tea
- an Orange based tea.
- Vanilla Tea
I hope you have enjoyed this new way to enjoy your tea - for some of us it's just another excuse to include more chocolate into our days and nights!
