Now before I start some of you may know and love this as a hot cocoa mix don't worry it is all the same great taste!
Hot chocolate mix recipe
- 3 cups instant full cream milk powder
- 1 ½ cups icing sugar (confectioners sugar)
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup coffee creamer
Sieve all the ingredients together. Sieving is important as cocoa powder nearly always has lumps in it. Store the hot cocoa mix in an airtight container in a cool place. Makes 18 serves.
Gourmet hot chocolate mix recipe
- 3 cups instant full cream milk powder
- 1 ½ cups icing sugar (confectioners sugar)
- 2 1/2 cups cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup coffee creamer
- 300g dark chocolate, finely grated
How to use the hot chocolate mix
Place 2 heaped tablespoons (3 if you want to indulge) of your choice of chocolate mix in a coffee cup or mug. Fill to ¾ full with boiling water. Stir to dissolve.
Making the hot chocolate drink with hot full cream milk is even nicer. The quickest way to do this is to heat the milk in the microwave in a heat proof jug.
Top the hot chocolate with marshmallows for extra sweetness or a lovely dollop of whipped cream. Dust the top with a sprinkling of the hot chocolate mix, grated chocolate or a lovely big chocolate curl which will slowly melt into the hot chocolate.
If you need an iced chocolate rather than a cup of hot chocolate add 2-3 heaped tablespoons of the chocolate mix into a large glass. Mix to a smooth paste with a little hot water. Then top with icy cold milk and stir until blended.
For a real chocolate hit add a scoop of chocolate ice cream and top with a dollop of freshly whipped chocolate cream. Dust with more chocolate mix, grated chocolate or a chocolate curl.
