Iced Hot Chocolate
Frozen Hot Chocolate

"It doesn’t matter what you call it they all taste delicious!"

Iced hot chocolate is my favourite type of hot chocolate. I can drink it any time anywhere usually with cream and ice-cream and extra chocolate it's more of a dessert than a drink, well by the time I have finished making it it is!

Place 2-3 heaped tablespoons of the chocolate mix into a large glass. Mix to a smooth paste with a little boiling water. Then top with icy cold milk and stir until blended. For a real chocolate hit add a scoop of chocolate ice cream and top with a dollop of freshly whipped cream. Why not go over the top and make it chocolate cream. Dust with more chocolate mix, grated chocolate or a chocolate curl.

For a really frozen hot chocolate take 2-3 heaped tablespoons of your favourite hot chocolate mix and blend with a small amount of boiling water to make a paste. Add ½ cup of milk and mix until smooth. Add this to a blender with 2 cups of ice and another 1 cup of milk. Blend on high speed until the ice is broken up and slushy. Pour into a large glass. This is also sometimes known as a Chocolate Frappe.

Now you can build on this – you could also add two scoops of your favourite chocolate or vanilla ice-cream before blending. Top with a dollop of freshly whipped chocolate cream. Dust with more chocolate mix, grated chocolate or a chocolate curl. And why not as it is an iced hot chocolate add a few marshmallows as well.

I think if you followed all these ideas this is going to end up more of a chocolate dessert for two if so add two chocolate wafers and serve with two spoons and straws!

To have iced hot chocolate always on hand a little forward planning is needed. Make enough hot chocolate for four people. Make it double strength (4 tablespoons per serve). Freeze the cooled chocolate drink in ice-cube trays. Once frozen store them in an airtight container in the freezer. When you feel the need for an iced chocolate just add 2 cups of ice cubes to 1 ½ cups of milk in a blender. Blend on high until you have your desired texture. Easy now decorate or just enjoy!

OK if you are wondering what an iced hot chocolate or a frozen hot chocolate is just remember you may know and love them as iced chocolate or frozen cocoa! It’s all the same wonderful taste.
