Wedding cake flowers - how to choose the perfect flowers for your wedding cake.

I have put together some of my recent wedding cake pictures from my Inspired By Michelle Cake Designs business to help you.

Cake decorating flowers come in three forms.

1. sugar flowers
2. fresh flowers
3. silk flowers

No matter which flowers you use the first place to start is to match your wedding bouquet design. This will tie your wedding theme together.

You can choose to use a single flower or to fill the top or layers of your cake with flowers.

Sugar flowers are handmade this means the cake designer can match colours to your wedding theme. Sometimes this can be as simple as making the center of a magnolia flower the same as your bridesmaid dresses.

Fresh flowers are gorgeous. Please make sure that you use a good florist as the flowers need to be very fresh so that they last in the cake. The flowers are put on the cake at the last minute. This can be done by the cake designer or your wedding co-ordinator at the reception venue.

Do not try and mix fresh and sugar flowers together as the moisture from the fresh flowers will destroy the sugar flowers.

So many brides use silk flowers in their wedding bouquets it seems a waste not to use them on their cakes as well. Silk flowers today have amazing qualities and colour range. They are also very easy to use when decorating a cake.
