Wedding Cupcake Ideas

The wedding cupcake I think is one of the nicest recent changes to wedding cakes. They are very popular for a number of reasons. Mainly because it's a new idea but also because there is no cutting up of the wedding cake - they are already portioned which saves alot of fuss.
They also make a lovely wedding favor if packaged in a small acetate bow for your guests to take home.
On this page I am showing you simple but effective ideas to decorate my chocolate cupcake recipe. If you would like to make and decorate the cupcakes a few days ahead of the wedding day then I would recommend using my chocolate cake recipe or white chocolate cake recipe as both of these stay deliciously moist for days.

Other cakes I have used my chocolate buttercream recipe which has white chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut etc variations. I have also used my chocolate glaze which is allowed to cool then beaten to thicked then piped generously on top. All these recipes can be found in my fillings and frostings section.
Being organised is the key to doing large quantities of wedding cupcake. Make the flowers ahead of time - this can be done weeks in advance then stored in a seal container after drying. But there is no reason why you have to make the flowers yourself - there are plenty of ready made flowers available at your local cake decorating center. They can even make flowers to order to match your wedding colours.
Colour your fondant ahead of time. The cakes can be made and decorated 3 days in advance if kept in a cool place and away from little fingers! Do not refrigerate as they will sweat and spoil.
The flowers can be made out of modelling paste or if you are just making the little blossoms or letters just use the ready to roll fondant - I do, I like to keep things simple.

Although I have not shown this it is still popular for a top cake to be decorated as well so that the bride and groom have a keepsake. So if you are inspired by some of my ideas the top would simply be covered in the same fondant and decorated with more of the flowers or larger versions of them.
These wedding cupcake decorating ideas can be applied to many other occassions, bridal shower, baby showers, wedding anniversaries and birthdays.

Chocolate cupcakes can be used to celebrate many different occassions - but they are also great just for an afternoon snack or to pack into childrens lunches. To see more ideas for cupcakes take a peek here.

A new way of combining a tradition with modern wedding cake design is to have a fondant covered top wedding tier then tiers of wedding cupcake below. All of which are decorated in the same design.

Other Chocolate Wedding Ideas
Another idea I have used with great success is to make these lovely chocolate peppermint bites. I have given the old fashion recipe a mini make-over. You can apply the same idea to my chocolate caramel recipe also. I love the blossom and bow-tie concept and these can be matched with the cupcakes.
How to make these delicious chocolate bites can be found here.
